Your Essential Guide to Every Secrets Resort (Part 1)

Updated: Aug 2

All-inclusive resorts have been around for decades and are getting more popular yearly. One of the most famous all-inclusive adult-only brands is Secrets. Even if you are not a resort lover, you have probably heard of Secrets; they are everywhere. But with 21 different Secrets resorts, how can you know the best fit for you? Don't worry; I am here to help. All 21 are prevalent romantic destinations, and each has a unique set of strengths and weaknesses. I am going to shed light on what makes each resort different. Here is your essential guide to every Secrets resort; Part 1 covers all of the Secrets in Mexico.

Cosseted in front of the gorgeous Sea of Cortez, encircled by mountains and desert, Secrets Puerto Los Cabos offers stunning views and unusual terrain. The resort doesn't feel touristy and crowded, even with 500 rooms.

Jessie's Puerto Los Cabos Tip: Upgrade to the Preferred Club Swim Out Oceanfront suite to ensure a romantic getaway.

Cons: The beach is pretty, but it isn't swimmable. It is also very popular with business travel, so many conferences choose it every year.

Ideally situated on the Pacific coast, Vallarta Bay combines excitement, recreation, and elegance for a memorable adults-only experience. It is a lively and active resort that caters to couples that desire action. The lovely grounds offer activities and surprises at every turn.

Cons: Restaurants at Vallarta Bay are a little more formal and strict about their dress codes. The beach is public, and you might find pushy vendors.

Escape and indulge your fondness for wine and romance in the heart of Cancun's Hotel Zone. The Vine is stylish and modern, home to some of the brand's most beautiful rooms. Each of these has at least a partial ocean view. The best vistas in the resort exist at the infinity pool on the 12th floor.

Jessie's the Vine Tip: You will see the lagoon and partial sea if you book an ocean view suite. Upgrade to a preferred club room if you want a full sea view.

Cons: Seaweed can be an issue, and beach chairs and loungers disappear quickly. And for a resort in Cancun, there isn't a ton of nightlife to be found.

Tucked away on the remote shores of Conejos Bay, enveloped by golden sand, incredible rock formations, breathtaking views, and turquoise waters, Huatulco provides serenity and romance. Huatulco is one of the most underrated Secrets resorts and offers the best value.

Cons: The rooms are dated, and restaurants can close without notice if occupancy is low. The beach isn't swimmable due to dangerous waves.

Maroma Beach sits along the Yucatan Peninsula on 500 acres on the pristine Maroma beach. The resort is the brand's pride and joy and is the most famous Secret for romance.

Jessie's Maroma Beach Tip: The swim-out suites don't receive much direct sunlight due to where they lie in the resort so the pools can be cold. You will want to avoid them during the winter.

Cons: There is a lot of seaweed on the beach, and the private beach cabanas cost extra.

Akumal is famous for its 2-mile stretch of stunning beaches, tranquil waters, and adorable sea turtles - making it an oasis for snorkeling. Many consider Akumal the best resort of the Secrets brand.

Jessie's Akumal Tip: Upgrade to Preferred Club Junior Suite Swim-Out because their water is heated. And the other swim-out pools are not.

Cons: Akumal is very popular; you can expect crowds at the beach and pool.

Secrets Aura lies in an oasis boasting beautiful white-sand beaches, colorful coral reefs, and calm ocean waters - making it a sanctuary for scuba diving, golf, and ancient Mayan ruins.

Cons: The resort is dated, and the beach is incredibly rocky. It would be best not to stroll along the beach without shoes. The food isn't up to the standard of the other Secrets resorts.

Ideally settled in the upscale gated community of Playa Mujeres within a renowned 18-hole golf course, this stunning resort offers secluded white sand beaches and warm blue waters.

Jessie's Playa Mujeres Tip: Consider upgrading to the Preferred Club Master Suite Ocean Front with a Private Pool; it is one of the largest and most luxurious suites in all Secrets resorts.

Cons: Playa Mujeres is another trendy resort; you will find many other romance-seeking couples. Expect long wait times at restaurants and activities during peak travel months.

Escape into indulgence at Secrets Riviera Cancun, an all-suite and preferred club resort between the sea and the Lagoon of Bahia Petempich. The resort was once part of Breathless Riviera Cancun, and it still offers access to the amenities of the more lively resort.

Cons: The thought behind carving a Secrets out of half Breathless was that you could have an oasis of tranquility amidst a party resort, but it doesn't work out that way. There is only one restaurant in the Secrets (one for 162 rooms!), so you can't avoid going to the Breathless. So it's less of an escape and more of a chore, ensuring you go to the other hotel multiple times daily.

Bahia Mita lies in the spectacular Banderas Bay with its glistening waters and lovely beaches. The resort offers stunning views from every angle. And it is the only Secret to providing a surf school.

Jessie's Bahia Mita Tip: Preferred Club has exclusive access to some of the best pools and areas on the beach, so you need to upgrade your room.

Cons: Bahia Mita is attached to Dreams Bahia Mita, a family-friendly, all-inclusive sharing facility. You will run into children; there is no way to avoid it.

Secrets Impression Moxche and Secrets Moxche in Playa del Carmen

For couples desiring complete pampering, unmatched service, and outstanding cuisine, the Impression Idea offers enormous, deluxe suites and lavish beachfront villas with a personalized experience for discerning travelers. Secrets Moxche lies on an untouched strip of white sand. The 485 elegant suites offer a modern experience with an earthy feel. Both are stunning resorts, the most beautiful Secrets in Mexico, in my opinion.

The cons: The drinks felt watered down, and the seats were hard to come by during the high season. Pool beds are also crowded; get there early if you want one. I would pick Impressions due to the rooftop and the access to espresso drinks at the lobby bar.

There are 12 Secrets in Mexico, each unique and with strengths and weaknesses. This blog provides a quick overview of each resort so you can understand which would best suit you.
