Is a Honeymoon Registry Right for You

Are you finding the process of planning your wedding overwhelming? Most couples do. There are a thousand different decisions to make. Indoor or outdoor? Band or DJ? Cake or cupcakes? First, look or surprise at the altar? Hair up or hair down, etc. In the heat of the moment, your future happiness depends on each decision you make. The truth is that none of the choices is life-altering, but there is one major decision that can have a pretty significant impact on your future. Should we do a traditional registry or a honeymoon registry?

Most couples are familiar with the traditional wedding registries. You go to a store and decide what items you will need to set up your household. Typically, you ask for: kitchenware, bedding, picture frames, furniture, etc. Then your friends and family go into the store, print off the list, and choose a gift. Traditional registries worked for your parents and grandparents. Will they work for you?

Maybe or maybe not. The world has changed since your parents and grandparents got married! Two significant societal changes are:

1. People are getting married later in life.

2. Millennials tend to value experiences over possessions (don’t you hate it when people over-generalize about a whole generation?)

Perhaps your wedding registry needs to change too? Which brings us to the newest trend in weddings: Honeymoon Registries. Instead of going to Macy’s and picking out the ubiquitous toaster, your friends can now go to your Honeymoon website and contribute money. Use the funds to ensure your honeymoon will be magical.

Sounds great, right? Well yes, but no two couples are the same, and so there is no one solution for everyone. How do you know if a Honeymoon Registry is the best choice for you? If you can answer yes to these questions, a honeymoon registry would be an excellent fit for you.

Do you already own your home?

My future husband and I had lived together for three years before we got married. I had dishes, bedding and all the furniture I needed well before the wedding date (not to mention a 30-year mortgage) I didn’t do a wedding registry because I couldn’t think of anything that I would need.

Is your dream honeymoon a little out of reach?

Weddings are stressful, and the honeymoon is the light at the end of the tunnel! The most iconic trip of your life. Now is the time to go a little overboard. Have you always dreamed of going to Bora Bora, but that over the water bungalow eclipses your budget? A registry can turn that dream into a reality.

Is your wedding budget ballooning out of control?

Along with being stressful, weddings are pricey. A honeymoon registry is a great way to ask for money and not ask for money. Most registries deposit the gifts as cash into your bank account. After the deposit, you can use the money for anything that you like. If you need to use the funds to help pay for the wedding venue, you can do so.

Honeymoon Registries are a fantastic tool. If you would like help setting up your free registry or need more information, call us and set up an appointment!
