Caribbean islands have stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant cultures. However, many couples stress about hurricanes, so knowing which islands lie outside the hurricane belt is crucial. These islands offer a safer option for a serene getaway without worrying about unpredictable weather patterns. Bad weather can affect any honeymoon destination at any time, so protect your investment with insurance. Hurricane Season in the Caribbean lasts from the beginning of June to the end of November, with the peak hurricane time occurring from August through October. Does that mean you should avoid the Caribbean for half the year? No, some of the top Caribbean islands lie outside the hurricane belt and are safer for honeymoon travel, especially if you travel in the Fall. Here are my #NoWorriesHoneymoon islands that offer couples peace of mind during a dangerous time.

Aruba

Like several islands in this article, Aruba, the 'A' in the ABC Islands, lies in the Southern Caribbean, outside the hurricane belt. Aruba is an exceptional choice for those aiming to escape bad weather. With its dry climate and 300 sunny days a year, it experiences fewer storms than other islands. Enjoy its stunning white-sand beaches, spirited nightlife, and excellent dining options. Take advantage of the iconic Eagle Beach and the impressive rock formations of Arikok National Park.

Where to stay:

  • Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort

  • Renaissance Aruba

  • Ritz Carleton Aruba

Personal Tip: If you want to visit Flamingo Beach, consider staying at the Renaissance for at least one night. The resort owns Flamingo Beach, so staying there ensures you won't have to pay extra to visit it.

Bonaire

Bonaire, the 'B' in the ABC Islands, is a diver's paradise. Its unspoiled, clear waters and vibrant coral reefs guarantee an unforgettable snorkeling and scuba diving experience. Bonaire's low-lying terrain makes it less susceptible to hurricanes, making it an ideal choice for travelers seeking peace of mind.

Bonaire offers salt flats, flamingo reserves, and breathtaking national parks, ideal for nature lovers.

Where to stay:

  • The Bellefonte

  • Bamboo Bonaire Boutique Resort

  • Harbour Village Beach Club

Curacao

Just a stone's throw from Aruba, Curacao, the 'C' in the ABC Islands, is another gem outside the hurricane zone. It's known for its adorable, multicolored Dutch colonial architecture and rich underwater life, making Curacao a paradise for divers and snorkelers. Willemstad, the capital, is a UNESCO World Heritage site showcasing a vibrant culture, art scene, and mouthwatering cuisine. Explore the picturesque beaches, such as Kenepa Beach and Cas Abao, for a perfect day in the sun.

Where to stay:

  • Baoase Luxury Resort

  • Sandals Curacao

  • Kontiki Beach Resort

Personal Tip: The water gets very deep quickly, so if you aren't a great swimmer, you will want to stay close to the shore.

Saint Kitts and Nevis

Saint Kitts and Nevis, two islands with a rich history and lush landscapes, offer a luxurious and secluded trip. Typically spared from the most severe hurricanes, these upscale islands provide a perfect setting for romantic interludes. Whether you trek through the rainforest of St. Kitts or unwind on the captivating beaches of Nevis, you'll feel pampered and special on these islands.

Where to stay:

  • Four Seasons Resort Nevis

  • Park Hyatt St Kitts

  • Paradise Beach Nevis

Barbados

Unlike the ABC Islands, Barbados isn't entirely outside the hurricane belt; it has a reputation for being less affected by hurricanes than many neighboring islands. The East Coast is more prone to storms, so pick a West Coast resort with its calm waters offering a beautiful escape. Luckily, the best resorts in Barbados lie on the West, otherwise known as the Platinum Coast. Take advantage of the vibrant nightlife in St. Lawrence Gap!

Where to stay (all of these are on the Platinum Coast.)

  • Cobblers Cove

  • Fairmont Pavillion

  • Sandy Lane

Personal Tip: If you want to golf at the world-famous Green Monkey course, you must stay at Sandy Lane. It is the only resort on the island with privileges.

Grenada

Grenada is the "Spice Island" located south of the hurricane zone. This picturesque island features luxuriant rainforests, breathtaking waterfalls, and beautiful beaches like Grand Anse Beach. Grenada is also famous for its energetic spice markets and regional cuisine, offering a unique and delicious taste of the Caribbean. You will want to experience the underwater sculptures at the Grenada Underwater Sculpture Park, a must-see for divers.

Where to stay (I couldn't leave any resorts off the list):

  • Spice Island Beach Resort

  • Calabash Hotel

  • Silversands Grand Anse

  • Six Senses La Sagesse

  • Sandals Grenada

St. Vincent and the Grenadines

St. Vincent and the Grenadines sit south of the hurricane belt, making them outstanding options for honeymooners looking to enjoy the beach during the Fall. From luxuriant landscapes and lovely beaches to stellar ocean vistas from every angle, a St. Vincent and the Grenadines honeymoon offers a bucket list escape on par with the Maldives and Bora Bora. Mustique and Bequia are popular choices for luxurious escapes and stunning beaches. For nature lovers, St. Vincent is ripe with lush rainforests, gorgeous waterfalls like Dark View Falls, and opportunities to hike La Soufrière volcano. These islands are perfect for anyone desiring a secluded, luxurious, off-the-beaten-path journey.

Where to stay:

  • Mandarin Oriental Canouan

  • Palm Island Grenadines

  • Sandals St Vincent and the Grenadines

Personal Tip: It is illegal to wear clothing or carry items made of camouflage material on the islands. Please don't take anything camo because it will be confiscated and most likely not returned to you.

Suppose you are planning a Caribbean honeymoon (especially if you are traveling between August and October); selecting an island outside the hurricane belt can provide peace of mind and safety. Aruba, Curacao, Bonaire, Barbados, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Grenada, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines are fantastic options that promise gorgeous landscapes, rich culture, and unique experiences. No matter which island you choose, you'll discover the beauty and warmth of the Caribbean. Pack your bags and get ready for a memorable adventure! So you can experience romance and relaxation in the Caribbean at one of these lovely islands during hurricane season.
